DTV is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) dedicated to advancing the amateur sport of Mountain Biking at the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre. Through collaborative trail building, strategic partnerships, and community engagement, DTV fosters access to the outdoors and promotes health, wellbeing, and environmental stewardship. Purpose of the Role

To lead and oversee DTVs’ compliance with UK GDPR and data protection legislation, ensuring that personal data is handled lawfully, transparently, and securely across all activities involving members, volunteers, and partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise and Inform
    • Guide trustees, staff, and volunteers on their obligations under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018
    • Keep the board updated on data protection risks and compliance status
  • Monitor and Audit
    • Oversee internal data protection practices, including audits, risk assessments, and policy reviews
    • Ensure data protection is embedded in new projects and systems
  • Policy and Documentation
    • Maintain and update DTV’s privacy policy, data retention schedule, and consent mechanisms
    • Support the development of data sharing agreements with partners
  • Training and Awareness
    • Promote a culture of data protection through training and awareness-raising
    • Provide onboarding guidance for new trustees and volunteers on data handling
  • Incident Management
    • Act as the first point of contact for data breaches and subject access requests
    • Liaise with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if required
  • Record Keeping
    • Maintain a data asset register and ensure appropriate controls are in place for each data set
    • Ensure DTV’s registration with the ICO is accurate and up to date

Your Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of UK GDPR and data protection principles
  • Comfortable with digital tools (e.g. cloud storage, spreadsheets, email platforms)
  • Methodical, risk-aware, and detail-oriented
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Desirable

  • Experience in a similar governance or compliance role
  • Knowledge of the charity sector or community-based organisations
  • Familiarity with data security best practices
  • Legal or IT background

Time Commitment

  • Approx. 2–4 hours per month, including attendance at quarterly trustee meetings
  • Additional time as needed for audits, training, or incident response
